A PENSIONER with a heart problem has been warned he could be jailed after he pleaded guilty to dealing in drugs.

James Brown, 75, admitted possessing amphetamines with intent to supply as well as supply of the class B drug.

Now the pensioner has been warned he could be jailed after admitting there was a commercial aspect to his dealing.

Claire Marlow, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court on Monday that Brown had pleaded guilty to the matters on a certain basis.

But she said because he accepted that he was making a profit from what he was doing they would not seek a trial of issue.

“My learned friend has indicated to me that there was a commercial element in that the money paid would pay for the drugs for the defendant, therefore he had nothing to pay,” she said.

“So there is a commercial element to this, therefore I am prepared to accept the basis if plea.”

Brown, of Poplar Avenue, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply and supply of the drug.

He was caught with amphetamines, some of which it was believed he planned to sell, on Wednesday, January 5.

He admitted supplying the drugs in the eight months before his arrest.

Rob Ross, defending, said his client had a heart problem and was due to have a medical check-up on Monday.

“It may well be that some information relating to that may be helpful at sentence,” he said.

Mr Ross asked for the case to be adjourned so the probation service can compile a pre-sentence report and sought a longer period because of the medical situation.

Judge Douglas Field and put the case off until September 9, releasing Brown on bail until but said: “Being granted bail should not be taken as any indication of the likely outcome.”
