A BAND of dedicated charity workers have said the sky is the limit at the start of a fundraising campaign in memory of a loved volunteer.

The Swindon committee of the NSPCC has several events planned in an effort to raise tens of thousands of pounds for the children’s charity.

It is in memory of Sue Hooper, who died aged 65 at her family home last December after a five-year battle against cancer.

In 30 years of voluntary work for the NSPCC, Sue rose to the position of divisional vice-president for the south west, the highest possible for a volunteer, and orchestrated fundraising events which it is estimated raised more than £1m.

One committee member, Belinda Showering, of Royal Wootton Bassett, will be attempting a tandem parachute jump next month to raise funds.

The 47-year-old said: “I met Sue and she got me involved in collecting for the NSPCC, which I did for 13 years. She also brought me into the group, because as a collector you don’t have much to do with the meetings.

“I’ve never done a skydive but Sue’s death really had an impact and I just felt it was something I should do – she’s my inspiration to do it and I know she would want all the money to go to the NSPCC.”

The group is looking for volunteers and anyone interested in getting involved can email caro@sapphiretech.
