THOUSANDS of music lovers descended on the town centre for the third SN1 Fest.

About 2,000 revellers took part in the festivities over 13 hours, partying from noon until 1am on Sunday alongside a total of 48 DJs.

The event started in 2009 as a pre-event for Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Swindon, but this was the first time it had been held at town centre bar Revolution.

Laura Caddy, one of the owners of the SN1 Fest, said: “We were really pleased with the turnout. It was hard because it felt like we were starting from square one moving to a new venue, but people have just embraced it.

“From the feedback we have had they really liked it. The atmosphere was like it was at The Bell last year.

“The ideology behind the SN1 Fest is to create an event to serve Swindon’s dance community by showcasing various performances from local talented artists across a spectrum of different dance and musical genres.

“We just want to give something back to the community and give people a really great event at a really low cost.”

DJs, including Laura, took to the decks throughout the day and night at the venue in Bridge Street. There was house music in the main downstairs bar, drum and bass and dub-step upstairs and a summer mix in the courtyard.

There was also a barbecue and street entertainment as part of the event.

“As owners of SN1 Fest, Kris Deering and I are proud to be part of the Swindon community and promote local talent as well as giving all the people of Swindon a fantastic event at a very low cost,” said Laura.

“During these bleak economic times, we believe that by creating an event that is affordable, different and exciting, this will have a positive impact on the area of Swindon.”

Laura said that the event is likely to go ahead again next year and they are also hoping to organise a family event in August.

“There could be something special that will include families on the cards so watch this space,” she said.
