A SQUADRON of air cadets will be hoping to put the town on the map after qualifying as the region’s representatives in the final of a national competition.

The 633 West Swindon Squadron was put forward for the final of the Lees Trophy, a competition to find the best squadron in the country.

After passing an inspection by regional inspecting officer Group Captain Michael Remlinger earlier this month, the cadets were praised for their performance. He said: “A most stimulating and enjoyable inspection.”

The squadron leader, flight lieutenant Helene Woodham, said: “We have been selected to represent the south west region for the Lees Trophy competition – the best squadron in the corps competition – and will now be inspected by Air Commodore Cooper RAF the Air Commandant of the Air Training Corps.

“We are in the final six of the competition, which is fantastic news only two and a half years after the squadron’s formation.

“The cadets have worked very hard and deserve it.”

The group meets on Monday and Friday evenings from 7pm to 9.30pm at Westlea School, in Langstone Way. For more information visit the website at www.633atc.co.uk.
