THE Cricklade Museum is presenting a new display and illustrated pamphlet about one of the town’s earliest celebrities – the 12th century scholar and Augustinian canon Robert of Cricklade.
Robert’s legacy includes Oxford Cathedral, studies on work by the Roman writer Pliny the Elder and a biography of Thomas Becket written shortly after his murder.
Pam Debenham, chairman of Cricklade Historical Society, said: “Robert is probably the earliest of Cricklade’s eminent individuals..”
Dr Monica Potter gathered the information about him for the pamphlet, so Robert might be commemorated more formally in his home town.
