CHILDREN at a nursery were taught the dangers of talking to strangers yesterday.

The 33 youngsters at Busy Bees Nursery, in St Andrew’s Ridge, received a special visit from two police officers.

Rachael Allen, the nursery’s assistant room manager, said the children had benefited enormously from the day.

“The children really enjoyed themselves, they had a great day,” she said.

“It has made them much more aware of strangers and how important it is not to talk to them and it has given them more of an idea of what the police actually do, which is brilliant.”

The children, who are all aged between three and five, were divided into groups and each group was given a talk from the police officers before they got to try on the officers’ hats and uniforms, and have a look inside the police car while the sirens were blaring and lights were flashing.

Rachael said: “The children were shown pictures of different things the police use each day during their jobs, including police dogs, horses and cars.

“The police talked to the children about people who help us stay safe .

“And they showed them their cars and put the sirens on for them, which they loved.

“The children were brilliant – they asked lots of questions.”
