Swindon College has teamed up with Inner Flame to help unemployed people across the town.

The college, in North Star, and the teenage personal development charity are running The Prince’s Trust Team programme, designed to change the lives of young people who are not in employment, education or training.

The 12-week programme gives practical and financial support and develops workplace skills such as confidence and motivation.

Geraldine Cruse, operational manager at Swindon College, said: “We have been looking to offer this type of programme with The Prince’s Trust for a while and we’re pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to local young adults.

“So many have already told us it is having a real impact in turning their lives around, we are looking forward to running many more in the future.”

The programme combines classroom lessons and practical work and all activities are carefully planned to help individuals move on to a job, training or education.

The team programme works with 16 to 24-year-olds in four key target groups which are: unemployed, underachievers in education, those leaving care and ex-offenders.

Participants get involved in team-building activities, a week-long residential visit, a community project and a two-week work experience placement.
