THE AIR filled with the sounds of classic band tunes this week when Bugle Boy came to the Wyvern Theatre.

Bugle Boy traces the life of the great American bandleader Glenn Miller and is a poignant love story which follows Glenn meeting his high-school sweetheart, then joining the US Army before his sudden disappearance in mysterious circumstances.

After a performance in an airfield just outside Bedford, he boarded a plane to France, but the plane never arrived. What happened to Glenn Miller remains as much a mystery today as when the iconic American band-leader went missing at the end of the Second World War.

With a 14-piece band recreating the Miller sound, audience members were clapping along in the aisles to classics such as In The Mood, String Of Pearls, Little Brown Jug, Moonlight Serenade and Chattanooga Choo Choo.

The show was performed at the theatre on Tuesday and yesterday as part of a nationwide tour.
