NEWS of job losses in Swindon has been frequent in the past nine months.
The Adver has reported how several firms have been forced to shed jobs due to difficult trading conditions, as the result of the recession ushered in by the global banking crash of 2008.
Most recently Menlo Worldwide Logistics’ revealed it was looking to reduce the workforce at its warehouse and distribution facility in Arkwright Road by 35 per cent, which could mean a loss of 40 jobs.
Deloro Stellite ceased manufacturing at its Cheney Manor site in October last year, with 100 jobs losses.
In August, Nokia Siemens announced it was to cut up to a third of its Swindon workforce – about 150 jobs.
In July distribution giant DHL axed 200 jobs from its South Marston depot due to a centralisation at a new site in Bridgewater, Somerset.
There has been some good news though, with Honda taking on 500 new workers just last month.
