CLUBBERS are set to return to a town centre dance floor after a new manager took over at The Venue.

The three-floor building in Havelock Square, which was previously known as The Apartments, will be opening on Saturday nights from the beginning of June.

Stuart Bizley, who became manager last Friday, said he and owner Gavin McKelvie are excited about the development.

“At the moment we do weddings there and we do private functions, conferences and big club events,” said Stuart.

“Now I have taken over I want to change Saturday night at The Venue into a general club night.

“It will be for anyone and everyone. I know The Apart-ments used to get older people. It used to be the place to go when it was open. I want to appeal to everyone.”

Jamie Sinclair and two other partners relaunched The Apartments in 2010 under a name similar to when it was in its heyday as The Apartment, but it closed after three months in business.

The Venue has been open under its current name for nearly two years but it has not been used as a club under the current tenancy owners.

They hope the new weekly opening will help cover the £3,500 a month they pay in rates.

“I think there is a gap in the market because there hasn’t been a new club open in the town centre for a while now. It will be a bit of a change of scenery,” he said.

“I am a DJ and I play pop. I have got other DJs too, one who used to be a DJ in the Pink Rooms, and a few other different DJs.

“One week we might do older classics and the next week we might do newer chart stuff as a change.”

The main club room on the first floor will be used as the Saturday night venue.

“It is absolutely massive, it can hold more than 350 people,” he said.

“Hopefully it will be a success.”

Stuart said they are hoping to hold their first Saturday night opening over the jubilee week.
