The Swindon branch of a major chain is having a closing down sale after the business collapsed into administration.

Stationery and greeting card retailer Paperchase has discounted all its stock in the Swindon Designer Outlet store as everything must go before it pulls the shutters down for the final time.

Prices on pens, notebooks, cards, gifts, and wrapping paper have been slashed by 20 to 50 per cent.

The staff have not been informed of when exactly the last day of trading will be.

Swindon Advertiser:

Paperchase has been in business since 1968 but struggled with financial difficulties during Covid and increased competition from other retailers in its designer stationery specialism.

It had fallen into administration once before, in 2021, but on that occasion 90 out of its 125 shops were saved.

On January 11, Paperchase was put up for sale. A week later, it placed administrators from Begbies Traynor on standby as it tried to secure a rescue deal.

Paperchase fell into administration on January 30 and Tesco purchased the brand and intellectual property, but not its 106 stores, on the following day.

It is expected that the supermarket will offer Paperchase products in-store and online, rather than having the dedicated shops that are now closing.
