A man in his 30s has been treated in hospital after a shooting in Merseyside.
Police said the victim has non life-threatening injuries to his back and legs which are believed to have been caused by a shotgun.
Armed officers were called to reports of gunfire at Lyneham, Whiston at around 8.30pm on Sunday and the force said there was evidence of a gun being fired.
House-to-house enquiries are being carried out along with forensic investigations.
Detective Inspector Matt Smith said: “These are the very early stages of our investigation as we seek to find out the exact circumstances, so we are initially looking to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything around 8.30pm tonight in the Lyneham area.
“To fire any weapon in the street at any time is incredibly reckless and we will act on all information from the community to establish what has happened, find those responsible and remove them from the community.”
