A murder inquiry has been launched after the fatal stabbing of a man outside a house in North Lanarkshire.
Kevin McGuire, 51, was set upon by at least two men in Morar Street, Wishaw, in the early hours of Sunday.
He suffered several stab wounds and was taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital, where he died.
Police said the suspects got out of a black Nissan X-Trail car being driven by another man.
Detectives launched the murder inquiry following the results of a post-mortem examination.
They believe Mr McGuire was the intended victim of the knife attack, which happened at about 12.30am.
Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and carrying out house-to-house visits.
Appealing for witnesses, Detective Inspector Carol Craig, of Police Scotland’s major investigation team, said: “This was a violent attack which cost Mr McGuire his life.
“This does not appear to be a random incident and I am content that Mr McGuire was the intended victim and this was indeed a targeted attack.
“Nonetheless, I am appealing for anyone who was in the area and has any information that will help us identify the group of men responsible.”
