Facebook Messenger users have reported that the social media site is currently down and not working.

More than 9,000 people took to the outage site DownDetector to share they are having issues with the app.

Around 64% of the complaints were concerning the login, with 32% being about the app and 4% being about the website.

This was part of outages seen across apps owned by Meta, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads.

The outages started being reported from around 3pm today (Tuesday, March 5).

How did people react to Facebook Messenger being down?

Many Facebook Messenger users took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share their issues with the app as it had logged many of them out.

One user posted: "Is anyone else unable to log into Facebook messenger? It’s just logged me out."

Another shared: "Has anyone else been logged out of Facebook, messenger and Instagram? Just spent the last few mins shutting it thinking I’d been hacked."

Meanwhile, another wrote: "Anyone else been logged out of Facebook, Messenger and Instagram? I thought I’d been hacked as doesn’t recognise my details but happened to my mate too…"

What is DownDetector?

DownDetector is an online website that allows users of popular services including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Virgin Media and more to report if they are having trouble with the services.

The site only reports an incident when the number of problem reports is significantly higher than the typical volume for that time of day.
