SHRIVENHAM boss Gareth Davies admits sloppy individual defensive errors must be corrected if they are to record their first league points of the season this weekend against Virginia Water.

Davies’ troops have suffered 5-1 and 6-1 losses against Reading City and Windsor respectively, meaning they sit bottom of the Hellenic League Premier Division.

But an opportunity to record their first win of the season presents itself to Shrivenham this weekend when league newcomers Virginia Water visit Barrington Park.

“They’re the same as us as they earned promotion last year. We don’t know much about them,” said Davies.

“What I do know is we can’t continue defending like we have.

“The lads from Tuesday do have their heads down at the moment, it’s not been pretty.

“But 99 per cent of the goals we’ve conceded have been through our own silly mistakes that our players wouldn’t normally make.

“If we stop making these mistakes, we will be okay.”

While a minus 11 goal difference after two games makes for bitter reading, Davies admits results will start to turn in his side’s favour if they start taking their chances.

A missed penalty moments before half-time during Tuesday’s trip to Windsor would’ve levelled the game.

But instead, the home side romped to a five-goal win – crushing confidence in the Shrivvy camp.

Davies said: “We’ve conceded 11 goals in two games, but we’ve had our chances.

“Had that penalty on Tuesday gone in, you’d like to think it would’ve been a different game.

“It’s just not happening at the minute, and it’s disappointing because I know they can do better.

“I understand the players are a bit frustrated at the moment but it’s one of those things we have to deal with.

“It’s our first season back and we’ve had two hidings.

“The players that we have at the club are more than capable of playing at this level. We just need to stick together and hopefully it can be sorted out.”

All other teams in the Premier Division are in FA Cup action.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town make the trip to Leighton, while Fairford Town are also on the road against Hadley.

Meanwhile, New College Swindon are in Hellenic Division One West action when they host Cirencester Town’s Development side.
