HIGHWORTH Town manager Jeff Roberts reckons consistency in selection has played a big part in his side’s recent winning run.

The Worthians made it four victories on the bounce on Wednesday night when they beat Mangotsfield United 1-0 at home in the Southern League Challenge Cup.

Roberts’ side are back at the Save on Tyres Stadium on Saturday as they return to league action in Division One South, with Wiltshire rivals Melksham Town the visitors.

Three of Highworth’s recent wins have coincided with clean sheets, and Roberts says his squad is in a good place a month into the new season.

“This run of form has all been down to the players. We have got a more compact group this year and we’ve had a bit more consistency in selection,” said Roberts.

“That does make a real difference. Last season, injuries played their part and we kept having to chop and change the team.

“We have managed to keep the same back four together, and in the last four games that we have won, we have kept three clean sheets.

“They are young lads so they will make mistakes but they are dynamic and they are improving.”

Although there is familiarity between Highworth and Melksham given their county ties, a new face will be in the opposition dugout as Richard Fey has replaced Kieran Baggs as manager.

It has been a tricky start for Fey, with Melksham having lost each of their last three league matches as well as being knocked out of the FA Cup.

Roberts said: “It will be a bit of a different Melksham side to what we have faced before. I think the new manager has brought quite a few new players in.

“I have seen he has already spoken about commitment. If you can’t name the same team all the time, it does have a big impact at our level.

“We have got a good run going at the moment and we’re feeling confident.

“If we can pick up another good result against Melksham, it will send us into the FA Cup the following weekend in a strong position.”

Highworth will be without Jacob Davidge this weekend as he begins a three-match suspension but Ashley Edenborough, Sam Morris and Dan Drewett are all set to return.
