FORMER Swindon Supermarine boss Mark Collier has been named the new manager of Chippenham.

Collier previously applied for the role two months ago, but the Bluebirds hierarchy opted to appoint Steve Winter instead.

However, following a disappointing tenure which culminated in a 9-0 defeat at home to Stourbridge - a game Winter missed due to a surprise 40th birthday holiday - he was sacked.

That paved the way for Collier's appointment, with the 54-year-old meeting club officials following his return from a break in Egypt yesterday, coincidentally the country Winter was holidaying in when axed by the club.

The appointment - along with that of Tom Jones as assistant - was finalised tonight during a meeting of the Bluebirds board.

Collier's first game in charge is a tough encounter at home to Southern Premier high-flyers Cambridge on Saturday.

In tonight’s action, Supermarine’s Division One South & West home clash with Shortwood was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

In the Hellenic League Floodlit Cup second round, a hat-trick from striker Josh Fowler helped Shrivenham defeat Cheltenham Saracens 4-2 after the teams were level at 2-2 at half-time.
