STEVE Murrall has stepped down from his role as general manager of Swindon Town.

Murrall arrived at the County Ground as part of Jed McCrory's Seebeck 87 Ltd group which assumed control of the Robins in February.

He has since been charged with revamping the commercial side of the club, with specific focus on increasing revenue streams and developing the MyWorld concept, which allows fans to accrue loyalty points and purchase tickets and merchandise online.

In a statement, Murrall said he was relinquishing his position to pursue his own business interests, although he will continue to develop MyWorld. He has also resigned from the board of directors.

The statement read: "I have stepped down from my role with Swindon Town Football Club to concentrate on other interests, including the MyWorld project which was always part of my role within the club.

“Since we came in I have seen the football club move up to an operational stage which I believed it needed to get to, and from there I have decided that now is the time to concentrate on my own businesses.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the club and I wish the board, the players and the fans all the best for the future.”

Town released a statement on Thursday afternoon explaining Murrall's departure.

It read: "Swindon Town Football Club would like to announce that Steve Murrall has left his position as General Manager and has also resigned from the Board of Directors as of 31st October, 2013.

"During his time at the Club, Steve has overseen a smooth operational transition and has helped to identify new revenue streams which will ensure a stable and sustainable business model.

"He will now have time to focus on the STFC MyWorld Project and the Club would like to wish Steve every success with this.

"The Board would like to thank Steve for his hard work over the last nine months, ensuring that the transition between the previous owners and the current owners was as smooth as possible."
