NEW College could negotiate a route around the Hellenic League Supplementary Cup this weekend but boss Rob Hopkins isn’t bothered either way.

A victory for the students at home to Rayners Lane in the second round of the Challenge Cup would mean that they would avoid the Supplementary tournament.

That competition is not looked on favourably by some Hellenic managers but Hopkins says that win or lose on Saturday, he will be content.

“We view the cups as extra games for the lads,” said Hopkins.

“I know a lot of local managers don’t want to be in it but whether it’s the cup, the bowl or the trophy, we don’t care.

“Even if we lose on Saturday we know we have another game anyway, so we’re quite happy with that.”

Hopkins is without unavailable duo Tim Ogu and Dave Kinuthia while central-midfielder Grant White looks set for a lengthy period on the sidelines.

“He picked it up in the Ludgershall game but I don’t think he realised how serious it was until afterwards,” added Hopkins.

“It looks like cartilage and ligament damage, but we’ll have to wait and see.”

In Division One West, Purton entertain Old Woodstock while in the Hellenic Premier, Shrivenham have no game.

Wootton Bassett travel to Brimscombe bolstered by the signing of Corsham centre-midfielder Dan Lardner.

“Dan is one of those who will get round the pitch, is dogged and a ball player,” said Bassett boss Jeff Roberts, who has another seven-day approach in for a striker.

“He’s got a bit of an older head on him and that’s something we need.”

Bassett are missing Ryan Stanners, Jordan Roberts, Levi Cox, Steve Yeardley tomorrow while Jason Milhench is 50-50.
