SWINDON Town Girls Centre For Football Excellence took on Portsmouth and Spurs at the weekend keen to make an impression.

Every team from under 10s to under 16s defeated their equivalent teams from the south coast, but more significantly, there were victories for the under 11s, under 12s and under 13s against Tottenham’s sides.

Town’s under 11s defeated Spurs 1-0 as Honor Fraser scored the winner, while the under 12s won 8-7 on penalties, with Lucy Scrannage scoring the decisive spot kick. The under 13s completed the hat-trick with a fine 2-0 victory.

Shane Hewlett, who oversees the Girls CFFE for Swindon Town Football In The Community Trust, said: “This goes to show that if you work hard and have the right attitude you can achieve your goals.

“Three years ago we could not compete with the likes of Spurs and Reading, but now we feel that not only can we compete, but that we can establish Swindon Town as one of the most talented teams in the country.”
