DAVE Webb is hoping Swindon Supermarine grab hold of the opportunity provided by this Saturday’s FA Cup second qualifying round clash with Conference South giants Havant & Waterlooville.

The Webb’s Wood Stadium chief knows that his team have a mammoth task ahead of them at West Leigh Park as they look to get the better of a side packed with former Football League quality, including the likes of ex-Southampton defender Pelé and former Swindon Town striker Alan Connell.

Former FA Cup heroes Havant, who famously took a 2-0 lead in a fourth round tie against Liverpool at Anfield in January 2008 before going on lose 5-2, have won their last five matches, scoring 16 times and keeping five successive clean sheets.

Webb admits that the odds are stacked against Marine but the South Marston boss thinks that his team still have the chance to show just how much they’re capable of.

“I know that it may not have been the best draw in terms of us progressing into the next round.

“We’re up against a side with great players and a good manager and they’re well-equipped to win the Conference South and go up to the league above,” said Webb.

“It wasn’t all that long ago that they were playing Liverpool.

“I’ve had a few different reports on them from different sources and I know what to expect from them but it’s not as though I can really say that there are weaknesses that we’ll look to exploit.

“My players are going to have to do their utmost if they want to have any chance of doing anything down there - any kind of positive result there would be massive.

“But we’ve got to try and enjoy it as best we can. It’s an opportunity for us to show the fans there what we’re about and show just how a good a side we are. We can show that we can play good football too.

“We will go there to try and win the game and we’ve got to look forward to it.”

Marine have been handed a blow ahead of their FA Cup showdown with the news that striker Bradley Gray faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of a stress fracture.

Webb added: “It’s some bad news for us. Bradley had the injury last year when he was at Hungerford and he’s going to have to not put any impact on it for a few months.

“We’re just going to have to try to do it for him this weekend.”

Eddie Stevens and Joe Shepherd featured in a training game against New College on Tuesday but both are still not yet back at full fitness.

Kyle Lapham is expected to miss Saturday’s trip to Havant whilst Luke Hopper remains a doubt.
