Swimmer Jazz Carlin enjoyed an exceptional 2014 in the pool, picking up medals in three major competitions around the world.
The 24-year-old became the first Welshwoman to win Commonwealth Games gold when she claimed the 800m freestyle title in Glasgow in July. She followed that up with silver over 400m before triumphing in both events at the European Championships in Berlin just a fortnight later.
Swindon-born Carlin finished the year back on the podium when she won 800m free silver at the World Short Course Championships in Doha. At the end of 2014 she was named British Swimming Athlete of the Year, an award voted by the public.
Cricklade rhythmic gymnast Laura Halford secured a medal treble at the Commonwealth Games over the summer. Halford, 23, bagged bronze in both the all-around and ball competitions and helped Wales claim team silver alongside Frankie Jones and Nikara Jenkins.
She successfully defended her British Championship crown at the start of the year and also competed in the World Championships in Turkey in September.
Steph Sherlock came agonisingly close to a picking up a medal at last summer’s Commonwealth Games. Alongside Lynne Hutchison and Mimi Isabella Cesar, Shelock helped England to fourth place in the rhythmic gymnastics team event, finishing less than four points off a podium place.
Espirit Gymnastics member Sherlock was also seventh in both the individual ball and hoop finals, and 11th in the all-around event.
A 200m butterfly silver medal at the British Gas Swimming Championships in April secured Tilly Gray a place in the England team at the Commonwealth Games last summer.
The 22-year-old former Swindon Dolphin member enjoyed two entries in Glasgow, with her best result being a semi-final spot in the 100m fly.
