JORDAN Turnbull admits he is still on a learning curve when it comes to his left-back experiment.

Town boss Mark Cooper has opted to play four at the back in recent weeks, although the absence of Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill through injury has given him something of a selection headache.

With Raphael Branco starting the season well in the heart of defence and on-loan Liverpool youngster Jordan Williams likely assured of his place, it is fellow loanee Turnbull who has had to shift out wide.

Additionally, the loss of injured skipper Nathan Thompson for four games has also not aided the adjustment of Town’s new look back-line and they have looked decidedly shaky as a result.

Southampton man Turnbull was a steadying influence at the back during his first Town loan last season but admits he has had to add new things to his game since coming back to the County Ground.

“It’s different. The gaffer asked me to play there and I will play anywhere on the pitch to get game time,” said 20-year-old Turnbull.

“I am enjoying it, it’s something new and something to add to my game.

“I have got to keep working on that side of my game as well as I am learning new things at left-back.”

Town’s penchant for attacking play encourages their wide defenders to get forward and support the front players.

Turnbull’s appearance is not one of the archetypal bombing full-backs and although it is still a work in progress, he thinks the experience will help him become a complete defender.

“In this team, the full-backs are very attacking and that’s something very different for me,” added the loan star.

“I am always at the back and not allowed to go forward but I have had to work on over-lapping and under-lapping the wingers.

“I am getting a lot of the ball out there and trying to attack and helping the team provide that clinical edge in the final third.

“I am also defending one-against-one a lot more.

“There are definitely a lot of things I need to work on but I think that is going to help me in the long run in my career.”
