LOUIS Thompson admitted his frustration at the manner in which Swindon Town are conceding goals at the moment.

In the defeat to Colchester United on Saturday Town were guilty of switching off twice to runners going in behind their defence and were punished. George Moncur and Callum Harriott took full advantage to score the goals that ultimately saw the Robins lose their third consecutive home game.

Since Thompson has returned to the County Ground, Swindon have conceded seven times in three games. Whilst there is no suggestion that is the fault of the 20-year-old, he has noticed some defensive traits he would rather not see from his teammates.

The Norwich loanee, who is still a little short of match practice, has come back into a team less experienced than the one he left.

Despite his tender years Thompson has vastly more first team football in his legs than a number of his teammates. Drawing on that bank of knowledge, he believes, with time, the defensive issues Town are currently suffering from can be rectified.

“It’s frustrating (to concede from runners not being tracked),” he told the local media.

“Sometimes when it’s a great goal or a great piece of play you hold your hands up, but the goals we are conceding, I wouldn’t say they are worrying, but they are easy to stop.

“We create enough, but we give away a couple of sloppy chances. That can be ironed out, the team is still gelling together.

“I’ve always said that young teams are going to make mistakes and that’s what they learn by.

“This team has bundles of ability we just need to start portraying that in a results fashion.

“I think we were a bit hard done by (against Colchester). We deserved a point if not three. We can’t feel hard done by we have to move on now quickly, we have another hard game with a long distance to travel on Tuesday.

“We have a good bunch here, we just have focus on Tuesday now. Work hard in training and hopefully produce three points up there.”
