WITH the transfer deadline looming, Swindon Town manager Luke Williams has said that he would not mind if his squad was not added to.

Michael Doughty, who extended his loan stay until the end of the season yesterday, is the only addition to the team this window so far.

While Williams is expecting his phone to be ringing off the hook tomorrow he would be more than content to continue with the players he has got, with players ready to step up should there be any last minute departures.

“I’m very happy,” he told the local media.

“I think the squad is very strong and I think we have quality in there as opposed to having lots of players.

“We have got a tight group and I think we have got a bit of everything in there that we need.

“Of course there is that fear that we might lose one or two but we have got players on the fringe that are ready to come in.

“We also have some very promising players in the under 18s who, if that happens and we lose players on the last day of the window, will be promoted through the ranks.

“I’m expecting my phone to ring at all sorts of ridiculous hours to tell me that this has just happened or that has just happened.

“Everyone is doing their business and often it suits people to do their business right at the very end because they have exhausted all avenues.

“There might be movement and we’ll have to adapt to it very quickly, but that is part and parcel I suppose.”

One player who looks like they could be heading for the exit door before the window closes at 11pm tomorrow is Iraq international Yaser Kasim.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away, with Premier League clubs reportedly interested in the central midfielder, and Williams would not want to prevent anyone furthering their career if the opportunity presented itself.

“I think that the players that have worked with me would all agree that I am somebody who doesn’t want to stand in the way of a player’s progress,” he added.

“I understand that, unless you’re already playing in the Premier League, there is always that urge to try and get there.

“On the flip side of that, I think anybody would be disappointed to lose Yaser.

“I think he is an exceptional player but if that is the dream move for him then he goes with our blessing.”

One player who has departed the club is Jordan Williams, who, it has been confirmed, has returned to parent club Liverpool after failing to recover from a knee injury.

“I would like to keep tabs on Jordan. I think he is an excellent player and he is somebody who understands what Swindon is about and enjoyed his time with us,” said Williams.

“Possibly we could see him again in the future.”
