LAWRENCE Vigouroux is in little doubt that Swindon Town will need to dig deep once again if they are to upset Gillingham and return from Priestfield with another positive result.

In February, with the odds stacked firmly against them, Luke Williams’ side produced arguably their most resilient display of last season as they held the Gills to a goalless draw in their own back yard.

At that point, the hosts were the highest scorers in League One and only three teams had avoided defeat at their ground, but Swindon blunted their opponents and earned Vigouroux a precious clean sheet.

Overcoming a vicious wind on a blustery February afternoon, the Town goalkeeper came through a testing day in Kent and the 22-year-old is expecting another thorough examination of his team’s character as they look to bounce back from Saturday’s loss at Chesterfield.

“We know that they will be a good side,” Vigouroux told BBC Wiltshire.

“I played them there last year – it was 0-0 and it was probably one of the toughest games of my short career.

“We will have to go there and be tough to beat like we were earlier this year when we played them away, and hopefully we can come away with three points.”

Swindon were well below-par as they slumped to a 3-1 loss at Chesterfield on Saturday and former loanee Vigouroux, who is now a permanent fixture at the Country Ground, is pleased to have another outing so soon.

The ex-Liverpool man added: “I am just happy that we have got a game (today) where we can try to turn it around quickly.

“It is really difficult playing a team that is bang up for it and the crowd was behind them, but these things happen and the most important thing is the reaction.

“Hopefully we can get back to winning ways.”
