PAUL Mullin has left Swindon Town to join League Two newcomers Tranmere Rovers for an undisclosed fee.

The forward was told he was free to speak to other clubs this summer and has opted to move closer to home to Merseyside.

Mullin did not take part in pre-season training with Town today, with the 23-year-old instead reporting to Tranmere for a medical before completing his move to Prenton Park.

Tranmere manager Micky Mellon said: “I’m delighted to bring Paul to Tranmere as he’s a player I’ve had my eye on for some time and Swindon just beat us to his signature as a league club last summer.

“As a local lad, he is keen to return to Merseyside and that has given us an opportunity to secure him, despite a lot of interest from other clubs.

“His work-rate is fantastic, he scores goals and will work well together with James Norwood. I think he’s someone who can have a big impact at the club.

“He’s young but he’s already got over 160 games experience in League Two and that will be a big help to us this season.”

Mullin spent just one season at Town, having been signed by former manager David Flitcroft from another League Two side, Morecambe, for an undisclosed fee last summer.

He put pen to paper on a two-year deal at the Energy Check County Ground and got his Swindon career off to a blistering start after scoring on his debut in the 2-1 win away at Carlisle United on the opening day of the 2017-18 campaign.

In total, Mullin made 47 appearances for Town, scoring 10 goals.

A statement on Town’s official website read: “Everyone at Swindon Town Football Club would like to thank Paul for his time at the club and we would like to wish him the best for the future.”
