COACH Sean Harper wants to see Swindon Storm finish their season on a high as they come up against Bournemouth Bobcats in their final game of the year.

It’s been a turbulent season for the Swindon outfit as they suffered a six-game winless run from the start of the season, before securing a record 84-0 victory over Hasting Conquerors at the beginning of last month.

The return fixture was due to be played on July 15, but due to a lack of officials that fixture with the Conquerors was listed as a draw.

Now, they return to action to face Bournemouth and offensive coach Harper says the players are desperate to get out on the field.

“We are absolutely buzzing for it. It will be good to get out there and exact some revenge on Bournemouth, although I’m not looking forward to another game in the summer sunshine we’ve been having,'' said Harper.

“We felt we should always have beaten Hastings, but thinking it and doing it are two separate things.

“The win was great for morale and confidence when we went out there, executed and we’ve been saying for weeks it wouldn’t be long before it all clicked and we dismantled a team in the way we were doing all of last season.

“Hopefully this puts us in a prime position to finish strongly against Bournemouth even though we are considered underdogs.”

Storm's last fixture was more than four weeks ago, during which time Rich Van Sloten has not returned to his role as head coach, leaving duo of Andy Wilson and Rich Westley in charge alongside Harper.

But Harper believes the break won’t have too much of an impact on the Storm players, who play on Sunday afternoon at Supermarine RFC (2.30pm).

“I think we have lost a little bit of momentum with the break but come gameday the players will all be up for it,” he added.

“Something just happens when you turn up and start getting into contact situations in pre-game, adrenaline starts to rush.

“It’s the final game and the one we can really show up and set out our stall ready for next season with.

“We’ve been trying to keep conditioned. This heat is sapping and we don’t want to finish tired.

“Our current stand-in head coach tandem of Andy Wilson and Rich Westley have been trying to bring back the fun element for us to keep morale in training too.”
