AARON Nell is expecting a different type of test this weekend as his Swindon Wildcats side take on Telford Tigers at the Link Centre.

The player-coach led his side to a four-point weekend last time out, with 4-3 and 4-2 wins over Sheffield Steeldogs in their Autumn Cup campaign.

This week, the cup competition continues, but they will face Telford – starting with the home fixture at the Link Centre tonight, before setting off for the away game a day later.

With a good record at home so far this year, Nell has stressed the importance that his troops keep up their good start this Saturday.

“This weekend will be a bit different to last weekend because Telford play a different style to what Sheffield Steeldogs do,” he said.

“Both teams are well coached but Telford especially, so it will be another tough challenge.

“Our mood hasn’t really changed, we had a good weekend and that puts us in good spirits, but Telford won twice too so they’ll be in good spirits.

“We have to forget about last week now and push on to get that win that we need.

“Home form is important and so far it bodes well for the season, it is something which is important to us.

“We’ve started well and that is something we weren’t able to do last year, so we need to maintain that to try get the last big win in the group that we need.”

Youngster Tyler Perre will appear between the pipes for the Cats as regular starter Renny Marr serves the remainder of his four-game ban.

Nell says he has full confidence in his team, but warned they must stay focussed for the entirety of the 120 minutes of hockey.

“We haven’t been finishing games too well so far, especially on Sunday’s I think mentally, we just switch off a little bit,” he added.

“It is something we need to keep on correcting and improving on, so it is important for us to make sure we do finish off games well.

“Tyler had a good weekend and he impressed us all so now it is about resetting. He will have taken confidence from last weekend.

“We are going to prepare him the same way as we did last week. He’s very level headed and mature for his age.

“He’ll bring the same level of work ethic and he is very calm so that is something you need as a goalie.”
