SWINDON Town's training ground reaction to last weekend's victory over Yeovil was enough to convince Phil Brown that the mentality will be right for this afternoon's visit of Oldham (3pm).

The 3-0 success at Huish Park was by common consent Town's most accomplished display of the season to date but also underlined their early-season inconsistency, coming off the back of a horror show seven days earlier in the 2-1 home defeat by Bury.

Town will chase back-to-back League Two victories for the first time in the 2018-19 campaign and Brown believes his side are in the right head space to complete a satisfying seven days.

"The training schedule this week has been light-hearted but also with the serious part of work and I witnessed a very professional training on Monday, which suggests to me that the Yeovil win is on the way behind and they are looking forward to the next game,'' said Brown.

"That’s the kind of attitude and mentality I want in this group. We have got a nice blend of seniors, we have got a nice blend of young lads, and there’s a nice blend of guys in the middle as well.

"If you have got good experienced players in the changing room, the kids will learn their trade the right way. When you are talking about Matt Taylor, Luke McCormick, Marc Richards and people like that, you have got a good solid foundation of experience and players not getting carried away with themselves.''

Brown has identified the danger posed by the Latics this afternoon but believes home willpower can carry the day.

"Having played against Frank (Bunn, Oldham manager), the teams he was in, the style of football was about playing,'' added the Town boss.

"That was his education and I wouldn’t think for one minute think he has gone into management thinking it is any other way. He knows it is a war of attrition in the second division but there are also a lot of teams trying to play. Whether that is now a trait of the second division or a hang-up from the World Cup, I don’t know yet.

"The challenge is quite simple, it is keeping the front four quiet. There are certain characteristics of the way they play that we have to nullify and certain characteristics of the way we play that we have to bring to the party again.

"That was, we hurt the opposition with the ball and we passed it in the right way. It will be one of those feisty second division September encounters where hopefully strength of character carries you through, and I have got strength of character in my team judging by the wins we have come by so far.''
