SWINDON Wildcats stormed to a superb home victory as they thrashed MK Thunder 9-0 at the Link Centre. 

Swindon made a good start to the game as they bid to redeem their defeat to Streatham seven days ago.

Adam Harding was the first man to get on the scoresheet. He was the quickest to react to a rebound lashed the puck towards goal. In the sixth minute.

From the opening puck drop the home side were in total control as they peppered the MK Thunder goal without getting their second of the game.

With just over five minutes of the first period to go, Edgars Bebris further strengthened the Wildcats’ position as he notched to make it 2-0.

The hosts made a superb start to the second period and it took the Wildcats just 24 seconds to increased their stranglehold on the game.

After a wayward block from the away side, the puck fell to Neil Liddiard on the blue line, the experience defenceman opted to shoot and the puck bounced into the back of the net off of the player-coach.

Four minutes later, the Cats added a fourth. It was another straightforward strike for the Swindon as Stevie Whitfield struck towards goal from distance.

Netminder Tom Annetts spilled the puck for the away side, allowing Chris Jones to sweep home from close range.

MK Thunder were struggling to cope with the clinical nature of the Cats as Michael Stratford wasted their best chance of the game by slotting wide.

The away side were handed a further handicap when Trevor Leblanc was given a two-minute penalty for interference.

The powerplay opened up an opportunity for Nell’s troops to score for the fifth time, as Jones struck his second of the game.

After Leblanc returned to the game, Thunder were down to four skaters for the second time as Rio Grinell-Parke was guilty of a late hit.

The Wildcats snatched a sixth to make the most of their numerical advantage as skipper Jan Kostal added his name to the ever growing list of scorers.

In the final period, Cats were handed a scare as Floyd Taylor tumbled into the boards and required some medical attention, before heading down to the lockeroom. 

Deep into the final period, the Cats secured their emphatic victory with a quick-fire triple as Kostal, Luc Johnson and Sam Godfrey scored.
