LIKELY LINE-UP
ONE TO WATCH – Charles Vernam
AFTER a sluggish start to the season with just one goal in his first 18 appearances, Grimsby Town striker Charles Vernam has found his shooting boots in recent weeks.
Although the 22-year-old drew a blank in the Mariners’ 2-1 defeat at Cheltenham Town last time out, he netted three goals in five games prior to that.
Vernam signed for Grimsby from Derby County over the summer after a previous loan spell at Blundell Park, and has started to establish himself in boss Michael Jolley’s preferred front two alongside former Swindon Town striker Wes Thomas.
Vernam struggled to make much of an impression during his early career at Derby and made just one senior appearance, but has found his feet after a move up north.
KEY BATTLE – Ellis Iandolo v Elliot Embleton
ELLIS Iandolo seems to have locked down the left-back role in Swindon Town’s defence under new manager Richie Wellens.
Iandolo has now been deployed in a defensive capacity by a succession of Town managers, with the 21-year-old adapting well from his preferred berth in central midfield.
Although his attacking qualities are clear to see, it is defending that is Iandolo’s primary requirement and he will have to be on his toes against Grimsby Town this weekend.
Elliot Embleton is one of the Mariners’ chief threats on the right-hand side, notching four goals this season, and will be Iandolo’s direct opponent on Saturday.
