RICHIE Wellens will have additional time to make summer signings this August, after EFL clubs agreed this afternoon to stretch the summer transfer window deadline to August 31.
The new deadline will apply to loan and permanent signings made by teams in Leagues One and Two.
Championship clubs meanwhile will have until 5pm on the Thursday prior to the commencement of the Premier League.
It is hoped that the move will encourage more trade between clubs in the two bottom divisions of the Football League.
EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey said in the statement: “I’m pleased that the matter has been determined and thereby ensuring clubs have sufficient time to prepare ahead of the summer transfer window opening in June.
“It is right that clubs were given the opportunity to determine the direction of travel in order to come to a decision that benefitted their own individual transfer policies.”
Swindon Town voted in favour of the changes that have been made.
