SWINDON Town manager Richie Wellens says he has not even begun to contemplate the prospect of losing on-loan striker Eoin Doyle in the new year.

Doyle struck a superb hat-trick on Saturday to fire Swindon to a 4-0 win at Crawley Town.

The goals took the Irish striker’s tally to 13 for the season and sees him sit at the top of the League Two scoring charts – six clear of his nearest challenger.

Doyle signed a season-long loan at Swindon this summer from divisional rivals Bradford City, although such deals are usually subject to a review in January.

That means the 31-year-old could potentially be recalled by the Bantams at the start of 2020.

Wellens says any thought of Doyle heading back to Valley Parade has not entered his mind, although the Town boss has continued to scout his own targets should additional recruits be needed come January.

When asked if he was worried about losing Doyle, Wellens said: “No, it is a season-long loan. I am not sure what the situation is at Bradford.

“I wouldn’t say it is their loss as where are Bradford in the league at the moment?

“When they let him go, what did we see in the next three or four days? They signed three or four players.

“The money they received from us allowed them to go out and get probably two of the best midfield players in our league.

“We had this after seven or eight games when people said we were going to win the league but what will happening in January?

“Let’s just be good until January and then we will deal with that then.

“I am not stupid, I am out watching games all the time.

“I watch four teams on a Monday every week to make sure that if the time comes that we do lose somebody then we have got replacements that will fit into our style and fit into the way we want to play.”

When asked about his future himself, Doyle stated he hopes he will be able to honour his season-long stint at the Energy Check County Ground.

“I am here for the season as far as I am concerned - and hopefully I will be here for the season,” said Doyle.

“This is where I want to be. I am enjoying it.”
