RICHIE Wellens has prioritised signing a centre half during the January transfer window, and would also like to add a striker, a goalscoring midfielder and a winger.

The Town boss believed this afternoon’s draw with Bradford City to be a fair result, but discussion after full time promptly turned to his plans in the coming 27 days.

Wellens confirmed that Gabriel Zakuani is now free to find a club, Sidy Sanokho is likely to join Town’s sister club Waterford and Paul Caddis remains locked in contractual negotiations with chairman Lee Power.

The Town boss added: “If we want to go up, we definitely need a centre half – maybe two.

“I want an attacking midfielder too - we’ve got no goals from midfield. Bradford’s midfield players could’ve scored, and we lack that.

“We definitely need a striker, and maybe a winger too.”

On the pitch, the 39-year-old accepted City’s late efforts merited a point.

Impact substitute Shay McCartan buried a delightful free kick into Steven Benda’s top right corner with just one minute of normal time remaining.

Promotion hopefuls Exeter City and Crewe weren’t in League Two action this afternoon. So Town still remain top of the fourth tier.

“A draw was a fair result, we were outstanding in the first 20 minutes and had that high energy,” said Wellens.

“But, after the goal, we sat off them a bit. The last 20 minutes, we didn’t have many options on the bench in terms of being an attacking threat.

“We ran out of legs. But I congratulated players afterwards because we have played four games in nine days.

“I would’ve liked a couple more points than seven from those games, but we lacked a bit of spark today because Plymouth was demanding.

“Bradford are a physically good team and asked us a lot of questions.”

A decision if to appeal the red card picked up by Jordan Lyden in injury time will also be made in the coming days.

Lyden was shown a straight red card following a foul on Adam Henley in the 91st minute, and he will consequently miss games against Crewe, Newport and Port Vale.

Wellens added: “The tackle is one-footed, he tried to loop with the outside of his right foot to scoop the tackle.

“We’ll have a think about if we will appeal or not, I think it was a yellow card. But the majority of the time you appeal you’re not successful.”
