ADVER Sport looks back at events that occurred on this date involving Swindon Town

1978: Moss slots derby treble

David Moss’s 22 goals in the 1977-78 season was his best tally in eight different seasons playing for Swindon – and three of them came at the County Ground 42 years ago as Town overcame Oxford United 3-2.

1992: Shearer departure stifles promotion hopes

Second Division promotion rivals Blackburn Rovers poach top scorer Duncan Shearer from Town.

It is a move which stymies Swindon’s own bid to reach the top flight, as Town scored only nine goals over their last seven games and finished two points shy of the play-offs.

Blackburn had been top when signing Shearer but would finish sixth before eventually winning promotion via the play-offs for themselves.

2010: Austin keeps race for promotion alive

Swindon Town’s chase for automatic promotion to the Championship continued as Charlie Austin scored the only goal of the game – for the third away match in succession – to see his side to victory on the long, long road trip north to Hartlepool United’s Victoria Park.
