ROB Styles will be no stranger to fans of Match of the Day and Paul Sturrock would like to keep it that way after the hapless Premiership referee ruined Town's derby with Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Styles sent four players off - two from each side - and dished out six bookings in a match that lacked any real spark until the closing 10 minutes.

It was the second week running Town have been dealt an official from the top flight after Lee Mason took charge of their visit to Elland Road.

Robins midfielder Lee Peacock described Mason as "an absolute shambles" and you would be hard pressed to find anyone with a more pleasant description of Styles' performance in Wiltshire.

For Sturrock the answer is quite simple - "keep them in the Premier League."

He said: "I want to make a plea tonight to the referees' supervisors.

"The last two weeks we've had top grade referees, and talking to other managers there's been a real problem when they've dropped down to the lower leagues from the Premiership.

"We've had two in a row - well you've seen the games.

"I don't know how they get affected, but if there's anybody listening out there - keep them in the Premier League.

"We will get on with the ones we've got."

Sturrock confirmed he would be asking Styles to watch a video of Saturday's match in the hope that Jerel Ifil's red card for violent conduct will be rescinded.

The Town centre half described the decision to give him his marching orders as "ridiculous" and has also appealed to Styles to watch the incident again.

Ifil said: "There was nothing malicious in it.

"I was trying to play the off-side. (Richard) Walker has been holding me trying to keep his position and I've just tried to get him off me.

"He ended up falling over, but he still wouldn't let go of me so and I ended up falling on top of him.

"We're asking for the ref to have a look at it and if it's been caught on camera then we will appeal."

Ifil insists the game was a clean one until the introduction of Walker as a second-half substitute, with Rovers' burly front man really putting himself about.

He said: "It was only when he (Walker) came on and he started to wrestle with me and Hasney. That was his game, what he was trying to do.

"But the three points was what we needed today and we got it. It was a massive result in a local derby so we're pleased with that."
