SWINDON Town manager Richie Wellens says ‘time is ticking’ for Kaiyne Woolery to accept a new contract at the County Ground while fellow winger Lloyd Isgrove will definitely not be extending his stay at SN1.

Both players’ Swindon deals expired at the end of last season, though the pair were offered new terms over the summer alongside the likes of Zeki Fryers and Mathieu Baudry.

While the two defenders opted to remain in Wiltshire, Isgrove and Woolery have yet to agree on another season at Swindon and Wellens believes now is the time to bid the Welshman goodbye and thank him for his efforts at the club.

When asked whether a prospective new attacker could mean Woolery or Isgrove returning, Town boss Wellens said: “We might have one outfield player in by the weekend, but it won’t be Lloyd Isgrove or Kaiyne Woolery.

“I think Isgrove has passed us by now, I think that’s gone.

“I’m gutted for him to be honest, but he took so long in accepting the deal.

“He is a great kid, he was a great part of the dressing room last season and I think you saw for the first three or four months of last season what a talent he can be.

“It’s a shame the injury away at Crawley interrupted his season, but then he came back and he was just getting into real top form in training just as the season ended.

“I think it’s time now to wish Lloyd Isgrove all the best and I’ll look out for his career because he’s a great kid.

“We’re still trying with Kaiyne, but time is ticking.”

Meanwhile, the search for a third senior goalkeeper may be drawing to a close after Wellens revealed the club has started contract negotiations with former Middlesbrough stopper Joe Fryer.

The 24-year-old featured in Town’s 2-1 pre-season victory over Brentford B last Saturday and has suitably impressed the management team in his short time with the club.

Wellens said: “We have offered Joe (Fryer) something but we are a little bit away in terms of length of contract and the salary.

“We’ll try and get something sorted before the weekend. If not, we might have to drag it through to the early part of next week.

“If we need Archie (Matthews) as a number two on Saturday against Charlton then I’m quite comfortable with that.”
