SWINDON Town manager John Sheridan says he is looking forward to working with both Tommy Wright and Noel Hunt and insists he has no plans to change the current coaching set up.

Following the departure of previous Town boss, Richie Wellens, speculation surrounding the future of Wright and Hunt has been rife with many hoping the pair are not poached by their former manager.

Sheridan said he would understand if the pair wanted to leave but reiterated his desire for them to stay as long as they are comfortable in their working environment.

He said: “I don’t want to change too much about the backroom staff – it’s about everyone feeling comfortable.

“I’ve come in, and they might not want to work with me! I just want everyone that I work with to feel comfortable and happy because that’s the best thing for us.

“Tommy is a really close friend of mine, I’ve worked with him at a number of clubs where we’ve been successful, so I’d love him to stay – the same goes for Noel Hunt.”

The new Town boss’ first assignment will be to try and pick up a result away to a struggling Shrewsbury Town outfit who have won their last two games in cup competitions.

Sheridan believes his managerial debut for Swindon will be a tough one unless his team battles on the ground and wins their duels in the sky.

He said: “Shrewsbury have had two good results of late, but they’re very strong and very direct.

“In the two good results they’ve just had, they’ve got the ball forward quicky because they’ve got some big lads.

“It will be going over the midfielders’ heads a lot – we’re going to have to do the ugly things well to get a result. And then we’ve got to be positive in ourselves in the way we want to play.

“If we can get the ball down and move it quickly, and get our attack-minded players the ball quickly then we can give them problems.”
