KENNY Jackett would be the preferred choice as the next manager of Swindon Town, according to over a third of polled Adver-Sport readers.

The former Portsmouth manager received 36 per cent of the vote, far ahead of Paul Tisdale in second who received 20 per cent of almost 900 total votes.

Tisdale, who remains the bookies’ favourite and can be found at as low as evens on one particular betting site, has been linked with the Town job on several occasions previously – both as manager of Exeter City and after he left St James Park.

The heavily-linked Robbie Fowler narrowly took third place in the poll after scoring 19 per cent of the votes while any other option received 17 per cent of selections.

Making up the poll’s options was former Town boss, Mark Cooper. The recently-sacked manager of Forest Green Rovers managed just nine per cent of the vote.

Plenty of readers expanded on their views too, with Get that bus out “Butler” expressing support for Jackett.

They said: “Kenny Jackett all day long if he’d come. I don’t want Tisdale, he’s turned us down before. Many players always speak highly of Kenny, and it’s crucial to have respect for a manager.”

Meanwhile, Scribblemilk first mentioned new Walsall boss, Matthew Taylor as a wishful past choice before backing Tisdale for the role.

They said: “Matt Taylor appointed Walsall boss, I’d have liked him back. I’d go with Tisdale, with the express target of building a progressive squad with an eye to the future. Of course, that won’t happen, and it will be another poor show for another season.”

Scribblemilk’s views were echoed by Colin STFC, who said: “He (Tisdale) is local - has a good CV - his time at Exeter proved that, not sure about his time at MK Dons.

“I personally find him a bit weird with his dress sense but if can win games and get promotion with good football - he can wear a pink tutu if that what it takes. Depends really if sees it as a massive challenge and/or a poisoned chalice.”

Elsewhere, there were a few readers who would support a current outsider. DevonRed2015 said: “I’d like a new, young, inspiring manager, not a failure that has been round the block looking for their next pay day.”

While Kevinkog suggested another former England striker for the Town job.

They said: “I know he’s still playing for Rangers but (Jermain) Defoe would be fantastic.”
