SWINDON Town honorary chairman Mike Spearman has died at the age of 92, the club has announced.
Mr Spearman was a lifelong Town fan who held many roles during a 40-year professional association, including director, chairman, and club ambassador before finally taking up the title of honorary president.
He also held the role of trustee and chairman of Swindon Town FC Community Foundation since 1996 and worked closely with the head of the Foundation, Jon Holloway.
In a statement released by Swindon Town, Mr Holloway paid tribute to his long-time friend, calling Mr Spearman "a wonderful man".
Mr Holloway said: "Mike was a wonderful man, he was fully dedicated, caring and committed to everything Swindon Town.
"As club chairman and director, Mike was passionate about supporting the local community and played a big role in the Community Foundation.
"Mike was extremely dedicated and volunteered many hours to ensure that our Community Foundation continued to grow and develop over the years.
"We know how proud Mike was when we finally achieved our ambition of having our own facility and moving into Foundation Park. We will forever be grateful of Mike’s loyal support and friendship.”
Swindon Town echoed Mr Holloway's sentiments and added that the club and everyone associated with it would like to send their "deepest condolences to Mike’s family and friends at this difficult time."
