SWINDON Town head coach Ben Garner said it was two points dropped after the club drew 2-2 at home to Rochdale on Saturday.

Town took the lead through Ben Gladwin but went 2-1 down after second-half goals from George Broadbent and Liam Kelly turned it around for Rochdale.

Jonny Williams rescued Swindon in injury time though as the club’s poor home start continued with just one win from six in League Two.

Reacting to another frustrating home display, Garner spoke with mixed emotions post-match.

He said: “It’s definitely two points dropped from our perspective.

“In the first half, we were very good and in control. We should have had a second goal which would have put us in a better position.

“It was a blatant penalty missed again in the first half which would have had a massive impact on the game.

“Ellis Iandolo breaks into the box and the man is nowhere near the ball, he clearly takes him out.

“The referee is in a great position – how that’s not given, I don’t know. That would have had a big bearing on the game, because 2-0 at half-time makes a huge impact.”

A slow start to the second half ended up costing Town the chance to close the game out in their favour as the Dale pounced on a pair of mistakes to turn the game on its head.

Garner was disappointed with a rare shaky defensive showing from his players but was at least thankful to have taken some kind of reward.

He said: “From our perspective, we let them back into the game in the second half with the two goals. Both very much avoidable. It’s down to us, it’s our mistakes, we should deal with both a lot, lot better.

“But I have to give massive credit to the players for their response in the final 10-15 minutes. They were excellent, banging on the door, trying to get that goal.

“We did, and we tried to get that third, but we need to be winning these games.

“That’s the last two games now where we’ve been the dominant side, and we’ve picked up two points instead of the six it should have been.”
