SWINDON Supermarine beat Dorchester Town 1-0 at the Webbswood Stadium on Saturday to claim the club’s first Southern League Premier South win in 10 games.

Bristol Rovers loanee, Kieran Phillips - who only signed for Lee Spalding’s men in the days prior - scored the only goal of the game on his debut, marking Marine’s first win since August 30.

Against strugglers Dorchester, the hosts began brightly and hit the post early on through Zack Kotwica. Frankie Artus followed up, but his effort on target was well blocked.

Kotwica broke away again in the 10th minute, but his effort went over after he cut inside.

It took nearly 20 minutes for the Magpies to register their first attempt at goal, but it was tame and easily gathered by Marine stopper Martin Horsell.

Meanwhile, visiting goalkeeper Harry Lee was nearly left red-faced after he dropped a through ball but managed to grab control at the second attempt before Kotwica could capitalise.

Marine resumed their dominance after the break and took the lead three minutes into the second half. Moments after Phillips drove narrowly over,

Conor McDonagh collected the ball in midfield and played Phillips in one-on-one. The Rovers loanee timed his run to perfection before prodding the ball past the Dorchester goalkeeper.

Kotwica passed just wide of the post in the 55th minute while McDonagh saw a powerful effort tipped wide shortly after as Marine looked to make the game safe.

And with the Magpies loudly banging on the door, Artus had to provide a goal-saving block to deny Dorchester a point with five minutes to play.

Elsewhere, Highworth Town moved up into the Southern League Division One South play-off places following a 1-0 win at home to Barnstaple Town on Saturday.

Barnstaple, who had lost all 12 of their league games before Saturday, stayed strong until five minutes from the end at the Save on Tyres Stadium before Felipe Barcelos finished off Callum Parsons’ cut back.

As a result of their seventh win from 11 games, the Worthians moved up to fifth.

In the Hellenic League Premier Division, Royal Wootton Bassett Town secured their second league win in a row as they defeated Hallen 1-0 in manager Sam Collier’s 100th league game in charge.

Matt Bennett was the hero after he struck in the 15th minute.
