SWINDON Town head coach Ben Garner says his team will remain focused on upcoming league games after the Robins were drawn at home to Manchester City in the third round of the FA Cup on Monday night.

In the first fixture since Swindon were drawn against the Premier League champions, Town were beaten 4-1 at Leyton Orient on Tuesday night – the club’s only away League Two loss of the campaign.

Swindon’s overall performance appeared to show no signs of distraction, but the heavy loss drew up comments from fans about a lack of effort before the big game in early January.

Asked how easy it would be to ensure his players remain locked into the next five League Two fixtures, Garner said Barrow away is the only game that matters to the club right now.

He said: “Our process – the way we work, the way we train and prepare – won’t change. Our focus immediately switches to Barrow.

“It was disappointing to lose to Orient on Tuesday, but that’s gone. I’m disappointed for the supporters who were there in incredible numbers again on Tuesday, but we’ve been fantastic away from home.

“Yes, we’ve had a setback, but it’s important we bounce back quickly.

“We won’t pay any attention to that Manchester City game until January 2 after we play Northampton at home. That will be our next game after that, and that’s when we’ll turn our attention to it.”

Swindon’s slip up on Tuesday night was all the more costly given it was against a promotion rival in Leyton Orient.

Garner was deeply frustrated to see the club’s unbeaten league run away from home go up in smoke but believes his team can and will bounce back in style with a win at struggling Barrow on Saturday.

He said: “We wanted to keep our unbeaten run going – we don’t want to lose any games, especially league games against teams that are trying to push up the top of the league with us.

“If you look at the big picture, one away defeat all season is fantastic, and if we can maintain that rate throughout the season then we’ll be in a good place come May.

“Every time we’ve lost a game this season, we’ve bounced back with a strong performance and a result. It’s important that we do that on Saturday at Barrow.

“It’s a long journey and a difficult place for us to go, but there’s character within this group, there’s resilience, and there’s enormous quality too.”
