SWINDON Town are ‘close’ to bringing in a couple of new signings to the County Ground, according to head coach Ben Garner.

Town have endured a difficult transfer window so far with three loanees being called back to their respective clubs while only goalkeeper Emmanuel Idem and defender Jake O’Brien have been brought in to strengthen.

The pair of arrivals signed in the first week of January, but since then there has been a concerning lack of transfer activity from Town.

Garner said the club hasn’t been beaten to any players – the lack of signings is simply down to the length the process takes when trying to tie up a deal for players they really want.

He said: “We’re close on a couple. I’d like to think we’ll get those done next week and then we’ll be in a better place as a squad.

“There’s no one that we’ve wanted who we’ve missed out on, it’s just been the process with the players that we’re speaking to who we’d like to bring to the football club.

“For example, with Louis Reed, that deal took maybe a month from start to finish. Rather than after two weeks saying: “It’s not going well, he hasn’t said yes yet, let’s move on”, we wanted to focus on the players we wanted. We’re doing the same now basically.

“We were able to get a couple done quickly, but we’ve done a lot of good work, we’ve had a lot of great conversations, and we’re hopeful of bringing some really good football players to the club who I think will really improve us.”
