SWINDON Supermarine fell to a 2-0 defeat away at Taunton Town on Saturday in Southern League Premier South.

Lee Spalding's men had been on a run of four wins from their past eight games, but that was brought to an end as the visitors also saw Harry Williams sent off for a handball on the line.

Marine's afternoon threatened to start well when Henry Spalding's seventh-minute corner appeared to have crossed the line after a mistake from Taunton goalkeeper Matt Buse. However, the linesman failed to award the goal, and the hosts survived.

An encouraging first half - featuring a handful of shots from both sides - ended with no goals as Marine walked in content with their work.

The second half was a different story, however, as Taunton almost immediately made the breakthrough.

A Town corner was initially cleared but volleyed back into the danger area and struck goalwards. Williams was adjudged to have blocked the shot with his arm on the line and was subsequently sent off before former Chippenham Town striker Ross Stearn buried the spot-kick.

As Spalding's men chased the game, Taunton wrapped up the result with 10 minutes to play. Left-back Jay Foulston dribbled past two Marine players before nailing a shot into the top corner to secure Taunton's 10th win in a row.

Elsewhere, Highworth Town lost 4-1 away at Evesham United in Southern League Division One South.

Ross Adams' men made a poor start on their travels after conceding in the ninth minute at The Spiers & Hartwell Stadium.

Evesham won a penalty shortly before half-time, but Connor Johns made the save to give Town hope heading into the second period.

However, that hope was quickly extinguished after the visitors conceded once more in the 53rd minute.

The Worthians snatched one back in the 78th minute via Liam Haines' header from a corner, but the Worcestershire side scored a couple more late on to send Highworth home empty handed.
