FORMER Swindon Robins rider Adam Ellis has agreed a deal to race with SGB Championship side Birmingham Brummies this season.

The reigning British Champion won the National League with the club in 2015 and had a further spell at Perry Barr four years later while riding for Swindon as Alun Rossiter’s men won the SGB Premiership and Supporters Cup.

With the Robins opting not to compete for a second successive campaign while renovation is carried out on their Abbey Stadium, Ellis and his other ex-teammates have set about lining up rides for 2022.

Announcing the deal on Wednesday, Brummies boss Laurance Rogers was delighted to have captured his man.

He said: “It really is amazing news for the club. Adam was always on our list of potentials but we had to wait for a few things to fall into place.

“We hit a few pitfalls along the way and we’ve had to be patient with one or two things, but he’s a Brummie again and that’s all that matters.

“He’s a top-quality rider at this level and to bring the British Champion to Birmingham is big, big news.”

Ellis would have made his Birmingham debut this weekend in the Knockout Cup clash with Leicester Lions, but due to a prior league commitment in France, Birmingham have been forced to name Ben Morley as a member of their team instead.

Meanwhile, ex-Robins skipper Jason Doyle was due to compete at the Todd Kurtz Testimonial meeting in Sheffield on Thursday evening as he continues his build-up to the new season with Ipswich Witches.

Doyle finished with just six points at the recent Peter Craven Memorial Trophy at Belle Vue’s National Speedway Stadium.

At the same event, former Swindon rider Tobiasz Musielak collected only four points while Ellis finished last with just two points.
