SWINDON’S Max Cook suffered a disappointing start to his Bennetts British Superbikes campaign last weekend after his quest for an opening-round victory was brought to an abrupt halt on the first lap of Sunday’s race.

The 19-year-old was taken out by an over-enthusiastic rider that came in far too hot to the only left hander on the 1.2 mile Siverstone National circuit, completely wiping Cook out of the race leaving him no choice but to sit on the sidelines and watch.

Reacting to the frustrating incident, Cook said: “It’s been a fantastic season up to this point.

“It was no fault of our own but it was a racing incident and these things happen.

“I will take the positives from here, which is setting the fastest lap of 56.30sec on board the Uggly & Co by Binch Racing Yamaha R6 bike.

“Having topped all of the sessions up to this point I think I can challenge for the win in round two at Oulton Park.

“I just need to remain focused and not let these things get to me too much, but I will certainly take the positives from here and will aim to get back on the leaderboard at the next stop in the Superbike championship.”

Elsewhere, Swindon’s Charlie Nesbitt was another to suffer a DNF following two crashes in the opening round of his British Superstock Championship season last weekend.

After beginning with a fifth and 12th place in the two practice sessions on Friday, Nesbitt went on to land sixth place in qualifying aboard his Suzuki for the VisionTrack Suzuki team.

After winning the British GP2 Championship last season, the Swindon racer was hoping for more success in the point-scoring races.

However, the first race failed to go according to plan as - following a large pile-up which Nesbitt was not involved in - the Wiltshire man fell on lap nine while running in eighth place and was forced to watch on from the sidelines.

Starting in seventh for the second race, Nesbitt competed for the points positions until yet another fall at the Brooklands-Luffield complex saw him go down and end his weekend there.

He will hope to respond in round two at Oulton Park - the track on which he landed the British GP2 Championship late last summer.
