SWINDON Town owner Clem Morfuni says he cannot comment on “rumour and hearsay” amid speculation regarding head coach Ben Garner’s future at the club.

Reports stating Garner is set for a move from Swindon to Charlton Athletic emerged last week, but the delay in a potential deal being confirmed is causing confusion among both sets of fans.

Some Town fans have vented their frustration at the lack of noise coming out of the County Ground, especially because Morfuni stated his regime would operate with a spirit of openness and transparency when he first arrived.

But, in an exclusive chat with Adver Sport, the Australian explained that the club has to be careful about what information is released and when in order to avoid legal disputes.

Discussing the club's approach to dealing with rumours, Morfuni said: “As soon as anything is concrete, we will make a comment.

“I can’t make a comment on something regarding rumours and hearsay because it jeopardises both the other club and us. We don’t want to have any legal issues that might give us a problem.

“It’s like I said when I first turned up, there are certain things we can announce and that we will discuss, but there are also certain things we can’t discuss because of legal issues.

“We’re trying to be as open and transparent as possible – I’ve said this to the advisory board.

“If there are rumours about a manager or a player, I can’t really say anything because it jeopardises the club.”

Regardless of who is in charge of the football side next season, Town’s owner and chairman is adamant his vision to take the club forward on and off the pitch will remain uninhibited.

Improvements are already well underway at the club’s training facilities at Beversbrook while a new County Ground playing surface is in the works.

Morfuni is excited about the summer ahead and says Swindon fans can look forward to more positive times after a rough past few weeks.

He said: “In regard to what we’re trying to achieve, we’ve got a plan.

“And like I said to the staff when I spoke to them the other day, people will come and go out of this club – it’s like any business – but no one is bigger than the club. The club is the most important thing.

“I’ve got a direct goal and ambition for the club, and I’m not going to be deterred by anything that’s going on. I’ve got that plan, and I’m going to stick to it.”
