SWINDON Supermarine goalkeeper Martin Horsell announced he has left the Webbswood Stadium and signed for Southern League Premier South rivals Yate Town.

The dependable stopper has been a key part of Marine’s successful spell in the third tier of non-league football, regularly turning out match-winning displays for Lee Spalding’s men.

But after four years in Wiltshire, the experienced goalkeeper has decided to re-join a club he has already had several spells at in the past.

Horsell joined Yate from Torquay United in the 2007-08 season and went on to play 33 times. Following spells at Salisbury City, Dorchester Town, Tiverton Town, and Weymouth, as well as RRFC Montegnee in Belgium, Horsell then joined Bristol Academy in the 2012-13 season before returning to Lodge Road at the start of 2013-14 season where he was subsequently voted “players’ player.”

Horsell was later signed by Beadle at Hereford FC, and they both went on to win three consecutive league titles as the newly-formed Bulls raced back up through the divisions.

Writing a post on Twitter confirming the news, Horsell said: “My time at Supermarine has come to an end.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the last four seasons at the Webbswood. Thank you to everyone involved at the club from the very top to bottom (too many to mention). I wish the club all the very best for the future.”

Then speaking to his new club’s in-house media team, Horsell said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Yate Town.

“I enjoyed my previous spell at Lodge Road, and I’m looking forward to starting the new campaign in front of some familiar faces”.

“Marine later put out a brief statement of their own which read: “Martin Horsell has departed the Webbswood Stadium after four years to sign for Yate Town.

“Everybody at the club wish him all the very best and thank him for his efforts in a Supermarine jersey.”

Meanwhile, Marine confirmed midfielder George Dowling had re-signed for the club.

Reportedly of interest to a number of other clubs in non-league football, the former Bristol City player committed his future to Marine until 2023.
